A Level II fire broke out at an outlet of a shopping centre in Mumbai’s Matunga this afternoon. The fire was reported at a Big Bazaar outlet located on the Tulsi Pipe Road in Matunga, located in central Mumbai. According to initial reports, the fire was confined to the loft of the ground-floored Big Bazaar building in Matunga. There no immediate reports of any casualties. Local news channel TV9 Marathi tweeted a short video of the fire, showing thick smoke billowing out of the roof of the Big Bazaar outlet.
The fire brigade officers initially classified the fire at Level II, before raising the alarm to Level III. Officials confirmed that the fire was confined to the loft of the ground-floored Big Bazaar building in Matunga. The fire led to dense smoke and more than 15 fire-fighting vechiles were dispatched to control the blaze.
These included eight fire engines, seven jumbo water tankers and two quick response vehicles. Fire fighting and search operations were on as of last updating this report.
Firefighting operations were continuing, he said.
