The Accidental Prime Minister; A Political Propaganda before Elections?

The Accidental Prime Minister is an upcoming Bollywood movie releasing on January 11th 2019. The movie is a biographical movie based on the life of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The movie is based on the biography by the same name by Sanjay Baru which was published in 2014. The role of the character of the former Prime Minister of the country is being played by veteran actor, Anupam Kher. The movie is being directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and has been written by Mayank Tewari. The movie is being produced by Bohra Bros (UK) in association with Pen India Limited.

Dr. Manmohan Singh is an economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of the country for 10 years, from 2004 to 2014. He got elected under the United Progressive Alliance, the founder of which is Indian National Congress. The shooting of the film took place in London and in mostly in New Delhi. The first teaser of the film was released on June 6th 2017 which intrigued the audience. The teaser was released through the actor Anupam Kher’s Twitter handle. The Indian National Congress aren’t pleased with the movie since it is portraying one of it’s party members in not a very good light. Along with the achievements, the film also focuses on the shortcomings of Dr. Manmohan Singh.

The censor board has asked the filmmakers to obtain No-objection certificate from the former Primer Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the President of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi but the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party promoted the teaser through their official Twitter account. The Indian National Congress did not like such an act of the Bhartiya Janata Party and alleged that the movie was a political publicity. The Congress party even demanded special screening of the film upon the release of the teaser but later realizing that this may publicize the movie, they withdrew the order.
