Indian athlete Katie Irfan qualified for the Tokyo Olympics -2020 while staying at fourth place in 20 km of Asian Foot Championship in Nomai, Japan. 29-year-old Irfan cut a Tokyo Olympic ticket after completing his target in one hour 20 minutes and 57 seconds. The qualification mark for the Tokyo Olympics was an hour and 21 minutes. Katie Irfan of Kerala is an individual athlete qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
In 20km women category, Soumya Devi stayed in fourth place with one hour, 36 minutes and eight seconds. However, She could not qualify for the Olympics. However, Three Indian shooters have also qualified for the Olympics. Irfan is the first player to get this quota in athletics. Katie Irfan also qualified for this year’s World Championship. The qualification mark for the world championship was an hour, 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
Apart from Irfan, Devender Singh, and Ganpati Krishnan also qualified for the World Championship with an hour 21 minutes and 22 seconds and one hour 22 minutes and 12 seconds respectively. The world championship will take place from September 27 to October 6 in Doha’s capital, Qatar.
Kerala’s Irfan also made a national record during the 2012 London Olympics. However, despite having made a national record, he remained at the 10th place in the London Olympics.
