Koffee with Karan is famous for its coffee and the controversies that go along with it. The show is hosted by Bollywood director and producer Karan Johan. Koffee with Karan is a chat show where in Karan Johar invites famous personalities from different career fields, mostly film industry and sports industry and have a fun, informal chat with them, unfolding all the secrets of their lives. On one such episode cricketers Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul were invited for a fun and interactive session which soon turned out to be very controversial.
Hardik Pandya said few controversial remarks over women that he had seen in nightclubs or parties or had affair with. K L Rahul was more restricted in his statements but Hardik Pandya has no control over his statements and now both the cricketers are finding themselves in deep trouble. Both the cricketers are at the beginning of their careers only and are already facing such backlash over their controversial remarks. “Sexist, racist and misogynistic” are the words used by the public in the reaction over his remarks.
The extent of the backlash has been such that this particular episode of Koffee with Karan has been removed from hotstar, where the episodes of the show are streamed online. BCCI has also suspended Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul and an enquiry is pending over their sexist remarks. Hardik Pandya posted an apology on the social media and said he got a bit carried away in his defense. Committee of Administrators Chairman, Vinod Rai had recommended a two-match ban for the duo. BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary also called for an inquiry to find whether these two players had sought permission to appear on the show and if yes, who gave them permission. Indian Criket Team’s skipper and Captain Virat Kohli gave a statement in the press that the remarks of the two cricketers are their own and doesn’t reflect the views of the team.
