More than 16 million devotees took holy dip on the auspicious occassion of Makar Sankranti at Sangam, the confluence of three mighty rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, marking the onset of the great Kumbh Mela, in the city of Allahabad. The holy dip at Sangam during the Kumbh Mela, the seven-week event, is said to cleanse one’s body and soul, and free one from the unending cycle of life and death.
The Yogi Adityanath Government is preparing since weeks and working in action to make the Kumbh Mela a great, efficiently-managed event. According to the state government, more than 150 million people are expected to visit the Kumbh Mela, from all over the country. Devotees from some other countries are also visiting the great, much-talked Kumbh Mela. The Kumbh Meha is experiencing population more than of Russia and geographically the Kumbh Mela is bigger than countries Vatican City, Monaco, Nauru and Tuvalu. Thousands of colourful tents have been set up for accommodation of the devotees which also bring beauty and colours to the Mela.
Sadhus have set up temporary ashrams on the Mela ground for their accommodation where they will be staying for the seven weeks. They chant hymns and Vedic mantras and devotees go to the Sadhus for their blessings. Various stalls have been set up with pooja items, rudraksha Malas, Bhagwan Pustikas, rare flowers, Shivlings, and food items. The Mela police are working efficiently day and night to ensure peace at the Mela.
