Tej Bahadur Nomination rejected: SP-BSP-RLD Mahagathbandhan candidate and former BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav’s nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency was rejected Wednesday. Yadav said he will now approach the Supreme Court following the rejection of his nomination. “My nomination has been rejected wrongly. I was asked to produce the evidence at 6.15pm yesterday, we produced the evidence, still my nomination was rejected. We will go to the Supreme Court,” 43-year-old Yadav was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.”

Tej Bahadur filled two nomination papers. One as an independent candidate on April 24 and later he filed another on April 29 as SP-BSP-RLD candidate. Tejbahadur Yadav has said that he will appeal against this in the Apex Court. He has said that his nomination has been canceled incorrectly. Talking to the media, he said, “I had been asked to submit evidence till 6.15 pm. We had submitted the evidence, even then my nomination was canceled, we will go to the Supreme Court.”

The latest move came after the returning officer in Varanasi had served a notice to Yadav seeking an explanation over alleged discrepancies in the two sets of nomination papers he filed for the Varanasi seat, which will go to polls on May 19.

Congress candidate Ajay Rai and another candidate of Samajwadi Party, Shalini Yadav also filed their nominations. A new twist came in the case when on April 30, Tej Bahadur Yadav got the first notice from District Election Officer, in which he was told that he should bring a letter from BSF to find out why he was dismissed. In the notice, he was asked to appear before the District Election Officer on May 1, 2109, ie 90 years.

Later, the second notice was issued, in which the date mentioned in the first notice was declared as ‘Clerical Mistake’ and he was asked to bring a letter from the Border Security Force to May 11, 2019, at 11 am.
