Madhubala, born as Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi, was born on 14th February 1933. She is undoubtedly considered the biggest female superstar of the Indian Film Industry. She began working in films at the age of 9. She made her debut in movies as a child artist in the year 1942 with the film Basant and her first adult role was in the year 1947 when she was 14 years of age as Ganga in the film Neel Kamal opposite Raj Kapoor. She was known as the Indian Marilyn Monroe and tragedy queen of Bollywood. She was a rebel, a star who commanded adoration of millions and is remembered to this day.
The mix of innocence and vulnerability she brought to the screen was only intensified by the roles she picked, of strong women who may have accepted the role society imposed on them but had a mind of their own and lived a life they wanted to. Madhubala’s role in Mughal E Azam is undoubtedly her most appreciated and remembered role. Portraying Anarkali, she received a lot of appreciation till date. The song Pyaar Kiya To Darna of the movie is still very famous and in the playlist of many of her fans.
Madhubala is known to be a hopeless romantic who has tragic relationships. The most famous of her relationships were with Dilip Kumar and Kishore Kumar. She had a long relationship with the actor Dilip Kumar but instead married actor Kishore Kumar on the year 1960. Her life and career was cut short when she died at the age of 36 due to a prolonged illiness.
