Malaysia Open 2019 : Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu and veteran shuttler Kidambi Srikanth have entered the second round of the 2019 Malaysia Open badminton tournament. World’s Fifth seed Sindhu defeated Japan’s Aya Ohori in the first round of women’s singles on Wednesday. In the men’s singles, eighth seed Srikanth defeated Ehsan Maulana Mustafa of Indonesia in his first round. Srikanth had lost in the India Open final two days ago.
Fifth seed PV Sindhu beat Japan’s Aya Ohori 22-20, 21-12 in the first round of women’s singles. Last year, Sindhu, who reached the semi-finals in the 38-minute match, got her name. World number-6 Sindhu has made a career record 6-0 against Ahori.
2019 Malaysia Open Latest Update
In the next round, Sindhu will face Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun, against whom the Indian player has a record of 8-7. However, Sung had defeated Sindhu in the first round of All England Open last month. In such a situation, Sindhu must be careful against Sung.
Kidambi Srikanth beat Indonesia’s Ehsan Maulana Mustafa 21-18, 21-16 in 38 minutes in the first round of men’s singles. World number-7 Srikanth has made his career record 2-1 against world number-41 Mustafa. Srikanth had defeated Mustafa 18-21, 21-19, 22-20 in the Singapore Open in 2017.
In the next round, Srikanth will face Thailand’s Khosat Phitapradab, who defeated Korea’s Lee Dong Kayun 21-15, 21-13 in 50 minutes in the first round. Srikanth and Khojit will be face-to-face for the first time.
Earlier, on Tuesday, in men’s singles event, Samir Verma had to face defeat by Shi Yuki of China. Yuki had defeated Sameer 22-20, 21-23, 21-12 in a struggling fight to three games.
