URI- The Surgical Strike is an upcoming bollywood movie releasing on January 11th 2019. It is an action film written and directed by Aditya Dhar. This is also the debut movie of Aditya Dhar. The movie is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala under the banner RSVP movies of which he is the owner. The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal and Mohit Raina in lead characters. The film is based on the 2016 surgical strikes conducted by India on Pakistan in retaliation for the terrorist attack on Jammu & Kashmir base camp that happened in September 2016.
The movie, URI was announced by the producer Ronnie Screwvala after one year of the surgical strike on Pakistan in September 2017. He said the movie shows on the big screen what was imagined to have happened in those eleven days of the strike. The lead actor, Vicky Kaushal went through immense military training for five months and had to gain weight to play the character. He trained for five hours a day and an additional three to four hours military training to enhance his stamina. He also went through gun training at the naval base in Mumbai. The lead actress, Yami Gautam also underwent mixed martial arts training.
URI was largely shot in Serbia and the final shots took place in Mumbai. The teaser of the film was released a day before the second anniversary of the strike on September 27th 2018. Till now the film has received mixed responses. Critics expressed their views that the film is a mature one, but the audience is bored of watching men in uniform fighting evil and showing love for their country. Vicky Kaushal is said to be the driving force of the movie, playing his character with the right amount of intensity and doing justice to his character. Vicky Kaushal has already won the audience’s heart by his power-packed performances in Sanju and Raazi and the audience is very excited to watch him perform on the big screens again. He is said to be the driving force of the film from beginning to end.
